Recent reports have confirmed cases of Meningitis B (MenB) in Kent, affecting teenagers and young adults. While the overall risk to the public remains low, it is important to stay aware of symptoms and understand who may be protected by vaccination.
Who is being offered the MenB vaccine?
Please be aware, we are following national guidance and have not yet been instructed to offer MenB vaccination to people other than those eligible under the UK routine vaccination schedule.
If this guidance changes, we will proactively contact patients.
What is the current vaccination schedule for MenB vaccinations?
The routine schedule for MenB vaccinations is a course given to babies at
- 8 weeks
- 12 week
- And a booster at 12 months.
MenB was introduced into the UK childhood immunisation schedule in 2015. This means, Children born after 2015 will usually have received the MenB vaccine through the NHS childhood immunisations schedule.
Checking your child’s vaccination record
If you are unsure whether your child is up to date with their vaccines, you can review their vaccination record online in the NHS App.
If you are unable to use the NHS App and believe your child (under two years) may be behind on their vaccinations, please contact the Practice. We will review each case individually with our vaccination team as eligibility may be available within the ‘uncertain or incomplete’ vaccination schedule. Our team will be happy to support you in getting any vaccinations brought up to date.
Some pharmacies are offering a private vaccination service for those who wish to receive it. This would be arranged privately by yourself and the pharmacies/ clinics that offer this service.
