From 1 June, the Practice will no longer be able to undertake blood or other tests requested by:
- Private healthcare providers
- Hospitals, clinics, or services outside of Leicestershire
Why are we making this change?
When blood or similar tests are carried out at the Practice, the results are returned directly to us. This means our GPs become responsible for reviewing, actioning, and communicating those results, even when another organisation requested the tests.
This can create delays, duplication of work, and potential patient safety risks where the requesting clinician does not receive the results directly.
We will continue to undertake blood tests requested by University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL), as results are returned directly to the requesting clinician through established NHS pathways.
If your test has been requested by a private provider or an out-of-area service
You will need to arrange your blood test directly with the organisation that requested it, or through a provider they recommend.
The clinician requesting the test remains responsible for ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place, reviewing the results, and discussing any necessary follow-up with you.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to maintain safe and effective services and protect capacity for local NHS patients.
